Where?

  • This meetup was hosted on zoom.

The page of the event on Meetup: HKML S4E9

Programme:

Talk 1: Machine learning summary in 30 minutes

Speaker: Richard Xu

Abstract: “Posterior inference”, “conjugate functions”, “neural tangent kernels”… We are overwhelmed by the growing number of buzzwords we see in the academic machine learning literature. In this talk, I am tasked with a challenge to try to summarize all the common and niche topics (that I am familiar with) in 30 minutes, hopefully to provide some clarity to audience.

Notes.

Personal takeaways:

  • Prof. Xu maintains a series of free machine learning tutorials: https://github.com/roboticcam
  • Prof. Xu runs a machine learning meetup: Machine Learning Hong Kong
  • Prof. Xu has a passion for teaching, and is running online machine learning theory classes on Zoom
  • The notes span most of the fields (theory and applied), but do not include (yet?) causality and audio/speech signal processing
  • Who are the research groups in Hong Kong focusing on causality? audio/speech signal processing? We are interested in inviting them at the Meetups!
